Des Cain (Past President)
(President, 2006-2008)
The members of the West Australian Bridge Club mourn the loss of Des Cain, a former club President and Chairman of the Building Committee.
After a successful career in business and service to the community in establishing Food Bank WA, in recognition of which he was awarded the OAM, Des joined the Management Committee in 2004/2005 when Helen Kemp was President. He served as Vice President at that time when plans for the sale of the old premises in Dalkeith and move to Swanbourne, were in the planning stages. His leadership skills and experience in business placed him as an obvious choice for Chairman of the Building Committee. He led this committee from the planning stages to completion of the new club rooms in 2008. His commitment to the task was absolute and enormously time consuming. Almost daily trips to the site and liaison with the builder and his committee were required.
Des became President of the Club in 2006 and prepared detailed monthly Building Reports to the Management Committee. He monitored the budget and costs of the building with Rica King, the Treasurer, demonstrating his outstanding qualities in communication and financial management.
Des was extremely proud of the club, its growth and success. The club Management made a courageous decision to relocate to Swanbourne, but with strong leadership in the past, and from Des in particular, the result for the club has exceeded all expectations.
Above all, Des enjoyed his bridge and the social times with Jan and their friends following the sessions.
All members of the Club extend their most sincere condolences to Jan and their family.
Vale Des
