Dr Graham Raad

For those who didn’t know Dr Graham Raad well, his apparently quiet and ‘unremarkable’ persona hid a truly remarkable career of medical service. Born on Christmas Day in 1929, Graham died four days after his 91st birthday. He graduated from Perth Modern School as the youngest matriculation student ever and graduated in medicine and surgery from the University of Melbourne. After a short career as a urologist, he switched to ophthalmology, becoming Head at Royal Perth Hospital at age 36. He worked closely with international expert Professor Dame Ida Mann and was responsible for ground breaking work in his field.

A life member of the AMA, Dr Raad was awarded 2010 Man of the Year in Medicine and Healthcare by the American Biographical Institute and in 2013 highlighted in an international publication as one of the world’s leading physicians.

Graham has been active with family, golf and bridge. Many Perth families remember Dr Graham Raad with gratitude. We remember him as a esteemed Member and good bridge player....with a love of good red wine.
