2022 Territory Gold Bridge Congress, Darwin

In late August a large contingent of players from WA descended on Darwin for the 2022 Territory Gold Congress.

The balmy weather enjoyed both during the day and in the evenings was a welcome respite from the cold and wet winter back in Perth.

WA had representatives from several clubs including WABC, Nedlands BC, South Perth BC, Undercroft and Mandurah. Five solid days of bridge playing kicked off on the Wednesday with 15 pairs from WA in a field of 50 pairs playing in the Matchpoint Pairs. This event was followed by the Swiss Teams with a total of 27 teams including 7 teams from WA. Best WA performers in this event
were:

  • 4th Deana Wilson, Dave Munro, Stella Steer, Jay Steer

  • 7th Gwyneira Brahma, Cassie Morin, Helen Arendts, Ros Warnock

The final event, Swiss Pairs, attracted a field of 32, with half the field from WA!

WA players performed well in this event:

  • 2nd Belinda Taranto, & Mark Doust

  • 4th Kathy Power, & Phil Power

  • Best restricted pair Helen Cook & Brenda Campbell

Aside from the intense bridge during the daytime, players were able to wind down in the evenings at some of the delicious dining venues in Darwin, many with picturesque sunset views.
