Christmas Congress - Friday

Christmas already!! Well almost , but first some bridge. The WABC Christmas Congress started with the Restricted Pairs on Friday morning followed by the Welcome Pairs in the afternoon.

In the morning, there were prizes for the top five pairs, the top pair with less than 100 masterpoints who had not won a prize, and the top WABC pair who had not won a prize. There was a score correction that affected the minor placings. The Restricted Pairs was won by Bernie Plath & Lorraine Rea from Veronica Ntoumenopoulos and Angie Somic.

It was pleasing to see players from numerous clubs attending, including from as far away as Albany.

One thing that struck home this year was the catering. Sixty club members committed to bring a plate of food in on either the Friday or Saturday and there was certainly lots of lovely items to pick from. We also had a good team of people preparing and putting the plates out. Sylvia Bray, Janis Baker and Jacqui Ecclestone were there on Friday. Kate North, Robin Challenor, Deirdrie Doepel, and Brian Embleton were there on Saturday and Sunday (apologies if I have missed anyone).

The Welcome Pairs in the afternoon was won by John Beddow & Egmont Melton from tom Burton & Sharon Schneider.
