The Anniversary Pairs
The WABC Anniversary Pairs was held on Saturday 4th February and celebrates the club's move to Swanbourne in 2008 and thanks those who played a part in what was a significant but very successful undertaking. Look around the club, it's the best bridge facility in Australia.
There was cake, thanks to Sylvia Bray, and bridge. The bridge was a single session pairs event scored across the room with seventy six pairs taking part. It was won by Pauline Collett & Martin Doran from Angeline Christie - Nick Cantatore.
Both pairs scored over 70% and interestingly sat in the same seats in different sections and arrowswitched exactly the same boards.
On board 19 only a third of the E/W field, including both of our place getters, reached 4S. The usual heart lead combined with a 4-1 trump break kept most declarers to ten tricks but at the winner's table an aggressive diamond lead allowed declarer to ruff a diamond for an eleventh trick. How did or would you have bid these hands? You really should get to game. There's a lot to like about the East hand with a good six card card suit, a nice four card suit, and a void.
